Seals with carbon graphites faces: the applications
Mechanical seals with carbon graphite are used in various industries. With industrial water pumps, for example, but also with wastewater pumps. In addition, our high-quality seals are also frequently used within the food industry. The main cause of pumps being taken out of service is a malfunctioning mechanical seal on the shaft. Needless to say, a perfectly fitting mechanical seal of high quality is therefore of great importance. After all, the continuity of your business processes depends on it.
Service life of mechanical seals
In mechanical seals, margins are used that consist of many digits after the decimal point. As a result, our seals with, among other things, carbon graphite treads can best be compared with precision instruments. The service life of mechanical seals depends on various factors. It can range from just a few intense minutes to many years running smoothly. As is usually the case, mechanical seals can also be said to last longer with careful attention. This applies not only to the mechanical seal itself but also to the related equipment.
Primary seal
Our mechanical seals consist of a set of very flat lapped carbon graphite treads and treads of other material. This is the primary seal. The minimum distance between these treads minimizes leakages. Usually two different materials are used for the treads. Both a harder material type and a softer material. This prevents them from sticking together. One of the material types of the treads is high-quality carbon graphite. This is known as anti-friction corrosion material. A hard material such as ceramic or silicon carbide (SiC) is used for the other tread.
Secondary seal and other materials
In addition to the primary seal, there are two secondary seals that are stationary. Usually these are v-rings and/or o-rings. One seal is mounted in the housing and the other seal seals the rotating raceway to the shaft. Furthermore, a spring is provided to continuously press the treads. This can be a single spring, but it is also possible to apply a ‘metal bellow’ or various small springs. A fluid is also required for lubrication between the carbon graphite treads and the treads of hard materials.

Hiertussen spoelt een spervloeistof. Deze zorgt ervoor dat de loopvlakken gekoeld en gesmeerd worden.
