What exactly is cast carbon graphite?
The material class of cast carbon and graphite includes amorphous carbon and graphite as well as so-called carbon graphite: a material composition made up of both hard carbon and graphite. These materials have a fine to ultra-fine grain size, which means they can show a high degree of anisotropy as a result of the axial moulding process. This gives them outstanding properties in terms of mechanical strength, friction and conductivity. These qualities are exactly why so many companies choose this type of material.
Material processing by Qgraphites
We design cast graphite material specifically to meet particular tribological or electrical properties. We can then optimise the resulting performance even further by impregnating the material with metals or phosphates, or by resin-impregnating the cast carbon graphite. Unlike other graphite moulding processes, this moulding process makes it possible to apply pressed-to-size (PTS) technology. This pressing technology is highly efficient. It offers you a major advantage, because complex parts can be produced in large volumes. That is precisely why Qgraphites can offer you the ideal price-quality ratio.

Characteristics and properties of cast carbon graphite material
Typical characteristics and properties of cast carbon graphite material include:
- Excellent resistance to gases and liquids
- Wear-resistant
- Long-term stability
- Suitable for custom manufacturing
In other words, these are exactly the characteristics and properties that are essential for the specific applications within your company. Qgraphites is happy to advise you. By working closely with you during the design phase, we can assure you of a customised delivery that brings together all these characteristics and properties.
Fine-grain graphite production
You can compare the production process for synthetic carbon and graphite materials with that of the ceramics industry. First, Qgraphites grinds the solid raw materials together with graphite. This is then mixed with binder pitch in special mixing equipment. Next comes the actual moulding process: think of isostatic pressing, extrusion, injection moulding or vibration moulding. The bodies created are known as ‘green’ material. We then carbonise them in an oxygen-free environment, after which they are graphitised before undergoing further machining to turn them into complex and specific shapes. At that stage, optional further refinements are also possible, including purification and coating with, for example, silicon carbide (SiC coating).
Products from Qgraphites
Thanks to all these characteristics and properties and the versatility of possible applications, Qgraphites offers you a wide range of cast carbon graphite products, such as carbon graphite blocks, tubes and rod material. But it certainly doesn’t stop there. We are also ready to supply you with customised carbon graphite brushes and carbon graphite bearings and bushings. Do you need a mechanical seal? We will gladly advise you on our sealing options with carbon graphite seal faces and carbon graphite rings. You can also count on us for carbon graphite pump vanes.
